GeM Registration 2026: How to Register on GeM Portal as a Seller

Updated October 2026·10 min read·Based on GeM’s seller prerequisites

Quick answer

How to register on GeM: Go to gem.gov.in → Sign Up → Seller. Verify the authorised person with Aadhaar or personal PAN and OTP, create your User ID, then complete your business profile (business PAN, ITR, address, bank account, GSTIN). Registration is free, and since August 2025 no caution money is needed.

GeM registration lets your business sell directly to government departments, PSUs and public bodies across India. It is free, it happens fully online at gem.gov.in, and most sellers finish the basic signup in under an hour if their PAN, Aadhaar-linked mobile, ITR and bank details are ready.

Who can register on GeM?

Any Indian business that can legally sell goods or services: proprietorships, partnerships, LLPs and companies; MSMEs with Udyam; DPIIT startups; OEMs, dealers and resellers; service providers (manpower, housekeeping, security, transport, IT); trusts, societies and government entities. The person who registers must be the proprietor, a director or a key person, because GeM checks their details against Income Tax records.

Choose your business type

Business PAN should have P as its 4th letter

  • ✓Aadhaar or personal PAN of the person registering, with linked mobile
  • ✓Active email ID

  • ✓ITR details for the last 3 years
  • ✓Bank account and IFSC in the business name

Optional but worth adding: Udyam (EMD exemption, purchase preference), DPIIT recognition, trademark or OEM authorisation for branded products.

GST: you can register without GSTIN, but GeM’s prerequisites say you can’t accept orders above ₹2.5 lakh without it.
